- जमीन पर फैलनेवाली एक बेल जिसमें लंबे लंबे फल लगते हैं । विशेष — यह फागुन चैत में बोई जाती है ओर बैसाख जेठ में फलती है । फल लंबा और पतला होता है । इसका फल कच्चा तो बहुत खाया जाता है, पर तरकारी के काम में भी आता है । लखनऊ की ककड़ियाँ बहुत नरम, पतली और मिठी होती हैं ।
- ज्वार या मक्के के खेत में फैलनेवाली एक बेल जिसमें लंबे लंबे और बडे़ फल लगते हैं । विशेष— ये फल भादों में पककर आपसे आप फूट जाते हैं, इसी से 'फूट' कहलाते हैं । ये खरबूजे ही की तरह होते हैं, पर स्वाद में फिके होते हैं । मीठा मिलाने से इनका स्वाद बन जाता है ।

ककड़ी ज़ायद की एक प्रमुख फसल है। इसको संस्कृत में 'कर्कटी' तथा मारवाडी भाषा में वालम काकरी कहा जाता है। यह "कुकुरबिटेसी" (Cucurbitaceae) वंश के अंतर्गत आती है।

In North America, the sweet-flesh varieties are often collectively called muskmelon, including the musky netted-rind varieties and the inodorous smooth-rind varieties, and cantaloupe usually refers to the former type. However, muskmelon in a narrow sense only refers to the musky netted-rind type, also known as North American cantaloupe, while the true cantaloupe is the European type with ribbed and often warty rind that is seldom grown in North America.
