विधि NOUN

  1. कोई कार्य करने की रीति । कार्यक्रम । प्रणाली । ढंग । नियम । कायदा । जैसे—पूजा की विधि, यज्ञ की विधि ।
  2. प्रयोग ।
  3. भाँति । प्रकार । किस्म । तरह ।
  4. आचार व्यवहार । चालढाल ।
  5. साहित्य में एक अर्थालंकार जिसमें किसी सिद्ध विषय का फिर से विधान किया जाता है । जैसे—वर्षा काल के ही मेघ मेघ हैं ।
  6. व्याकरण में क्रिया का वह रूप जिसके द्वारा किसी को कोई काम करने का आदेश किया जाता है । जैसे,—यह काम करो या काम करना चाहिए । यह लिङ्लकार में होता है और इसके दो भेद हैं । एक विधिलिङ् दूसरा आशिष् लिङ् ।
  7. किसी शास्त्र या धर्मग्रंथ में किया हुआ कर्तव्यनिर्देश । कर्म के अनुष्ठान की आज्ञा या अनुमति । शास्त्र में इस प्रकार का कथन कि मनुष्य यह काम करे । विशेष—किसी काम को करने की आज्ञा को 'विधि' और न करने की आज्ञा को 'निषेध' कहते हैं । पूर्वमीमांसा में नियोग का नाम विधि है । अर्थात् जो वाक्य किसी इष्ट फल की प्राप्ति का उपाय बताकर उसे करने की प्रवृत्ति उत्पन्न करे, वही विधि है । जैसे,—'स्वर्ग चाहनेवाला यज्ञ करे' । विधि दो प्रकार की कही गई है—प्रधान विधि और अंग विधि । फल देनेवाली संपूर्ण क्रिया के आदेश करनेवाले वाक्य को 'प्रधान विधि' कहते हैं । जैसे,—'जिसे पुत्र की कामना हो, वह पुत्रेष्टि करे' । प्रधान क्रिया के अंतर्गत होनेवाली छोटी छोटी क्रियाओं के निर्देश को 'अंग- विधि' कहते हैं । जैसे,—'चावल से यज्ञ करे, दधि का हवन करे, इत्यादि ।
  8. किसी शास्त्र या ग्रंथ में लिखी हुई व्यवस्था । शास्त्रोक्त विधान ।
  9. व्यवस्था । संगति । योजना । करीना । मेल या सिलसिला ।
  10. सृष्टि का विधान करनेवाला । ब्रह्मा ।
  11. यज्ञ नियमों का उपदेशक ग्रंथ ।
  12. कर्म ।
  13. चिकित्सक । वैद्य ।
  14. हाथियों का खाद्य या चारा ।
