In baseball, a home run is scored when the ball is hit in such a way that the batter is able to circle the bases and reach home plate safely in one play without any errors being committed by the defensive team. A home run is usually achieved by hitting the ball over the outfield fence between the foul poles without the ball touching the field.

बेसबॉल के खेल में जब खिलाड़ी गेंद पर प्रहार करने के पश्चात सभी बेस पर से चक्कर लगाकर होम बेस पर वापस आता है तो इस प्रक्रिया में अपने लिये एक रन और बेस पर उपस्थित सभी साथी खिलाड़ियों के लिये रन एकत्र करता हैतो यह होम रन कहलाता है। साथ ही इस प्रक्रिया में विरोधी टीम द्वारा कोई गलती भी नहीं होनी चाहिये। सामान्यत: यह तब होता है जब खिलाड़ी गेंद पर इस तरह प्रहार करता है कि गेंद खेल मैदान से बाहर निकल जाये।
