കേരളത്തിൽ പഴയ കാലത്ത് നിലനിന്നിരുന്ന ഒരു ഇനം നികുതി. നാട്ടുരാജാക്കന്മാർ ജനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും പിരിച്ചിരുന്ന വിവിധയിനം നികുതികളിൽ ഒന്ന്.ചരക്കുകൾ ഒരു സ്ഥലത്തു നിന്നും കൊണ്ടുവരികയോ കൊണ്ടുപോകുകയോ ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ അതിനു ചുമത്തുന്ന നികുതിയാണു ചുങ്കം. സാമാനങ്ങൾ വെളിയിൽ നിന്നും കൊണ്ടു വരുമ്പോൾ അറുപതിലൊന്നു ഉൽക്ക്(ചുങ്കം) വാങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. പുറമെ അറിവുൽക്കം (വില്പനനികുതി) ഈടാക്കിയിരുന്നു. ചരക്കുകൾ കയറ്റി കൊച്ചി അഴി കടന്ന് പുറത്തേക്ക് പോകുന്നതിനും പുറത്ത്നിന്ന് അകത്തേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതിനും ഈടാക്കിയിരുന്ന ചുങ്കത്തിനു അല്പാത്തിചുങ്കം എന്നാണു പറഞ്ഞ്ഇരുന്നത്.
