- एक प्रकार का का अधिकारपत्र या परवाना जो, एक देश से दूसरे देश को जाते समय, सरकार से प्राप्त करना पड़ता है और जिससे एक देश का मनुष्य दूसरे देश में संरक्षण प्राप्त कर सकता है । अधिकारपत्र । छूट- पत्र । पारपत्र । विशेष— अनेक देशों में ऐसा नियम है कि उन देशों की सरकारों से पासपोर्ट या अधिकारपत्र प्राप्त किए बिना कोई विदेश नहीं जाने पाता । पासपोर्ट देना या न देना सरकार की इच्छा पर निर्भर है । अवांछनीय व्यक्तिय़ों या राजनीतिक संदिग्धों को पासपोर्ट नहीं मिलता, क्योंकि इनसे अधिकारियों को आशंका रहती है कि ये विदेशों में जाकर सरकार के विरुद्ध काम करेंगे । हिंदुस्तान से बाहर जानेवालों को भी पासपोर्ट लेना आवश्यक होता है ।

पासपोर्ट या पारपत्र किसी राष्ट्रीय सरकार द्वारा जारी वह दस्तावेज होता है जो अंतर्राष्ट्रीय यात्रा के लिए उसके धारक की पहचान और राष्ट्रीयता को प्रमाणित करता है। पहचान स्थापित करने के लिए नाम, जन्म तिथि, लिंग और जन्म स्थान के विवरण इसमे प्रस्तुत किये जाते हैं। आमतौर पर एक व्यक्ति की राष्ट्रीयता और नागरिकता समान होती हैं।

It is typical for passports to contain the full name, photograph, place and date of birth, signature, and the issue and expiration dates of the passport. While passports are typically issued by national governments, certain subnational governments are authorised to issue passports to citizens residing within their borders.
