- मटमैले उन्नबी रग का एक प्रसिद्ध कीड़ा जो गरमी में मैली खाटों, कुरसियों और विस्तरों आदि में उत्पन्न होता है । खटकीड़ा । उड़स । विशेष—यह अपने डंक द्वारा मनु्ष्य के शरीर से रक्त चूसता है । यह आकार में प्राय? उरद के दाने के बराबर होता है; और इसके अंडे बहुत छोटे छोटे और सफेद होते हैं । अंडे से निकलने के प्राय? तीन मास बाद यह पूरे आकार का होता है । इसे छूने से बहुत बुरी दुगँध निकलती है । बहुत अधिक गरमी या सरदी में यह मर जाता है ।

खटमल परजीवी कीट है जो खून पर जिंदा रहता है। इसकी आम प्रजाति मनुष्य के रक्त पर भोजन करती है। यह घर में विशेषकर बिस्तर के पास रहते हैं। ये लाल-भूरे रंग के होते हैं और पाँच चरणों में अपना जीवनकाल पूरा करते हैं। हर चरण में इन्हें इंसान का खून चाहिए होता है। एक मादा खटमल अपने पूरे जीवनकाल में दो सौ से चार सौ अंडे देती है। खटमल गंदगी में पनपते हैं और यदि बहुत दिनों तक बिस्तर को धूप नहीं दिखाया जाए या सीलन हो जाए तो ये पनप जाते हैं। इनके काटने से खुजली होती है और लाल चकत्ते नजर आते हैं।
