Description

जो वनस्पतियाँ लता (Vine) कहलातीं हैं जो स्वयं उर्ध्वाधर दिशा में खड़ी नहीं रह सकतीं। इनके तने पतले और कमजोर होते हैं और इतने लम्बे होते हैं कि ये स्वयं खड़ी नहीं होती बल्कि किसी अन्य वृक्ष, दीवार, जमीन आदि पर पसरते हुए वृद्धि करतीं हैं। अंगूर, लौकी, कद्दू आदि लताओं के कुछ उदाहरण हैं। लता दो तरह के होते हैं- (1) विसर्पी लता (creepers) (2) आरोही लता (climbers) विसर्पी लता वो होते हैं जो सीधे खड़े नहीं होते जमीन में फैल जाते हैं। आरोही लता वो होते हैं जो आस-पास के ढाँचे की सहायता से ऊपर चढ़ जाते हैं।
