द्रवत्व NOUN
- बहने का भाव । पानी की तरह पतला होने का भाव । विशेष— वैशेषिके के अनुसार यह एक गुण है जो द्रव्यों में रहता है । यद्यपि वैशेषिक दर्शन में गुणों की परिगणना में द्रवत्व गुण नहीं आया है तथापि प्रशस्तपाद भाष्य में इसे गुण लिखा है । इस गुण के होने से वस्तुओं का बहना होता है । प्राचीन काल के विद्वानों ने द्रवत्व को भूत और सामान्य गुण माना है और द्रवत्व के दो भेद किए हैं— सांसिद्धिक अर्थात् स्वाभाविक और नैमित्तिक अर्थात् जो कारणों से उत्पन्न हो । ऐसे लोगों का मत है, कि स्वाभाविक या सांसिद्धिक द्रवत्व केवल जल में है और पृथ्वी मे नैमित्तिक द्रवत्व है जो संसर्ग से आ जाता है । आधुनिक विद्वान् द्रवत्व को द्रव्य का एक रूप या उसकी अवस्था मात्र मानते हैं । उस पदार्थ का, जिसमें यह गुण होता है, कोई निज का आकार नहीं होता, किंतु जिस वस्तु के आधार में वह रहता है उसी के आकार का वह हो जाता है । वही पानी जब बोतल में भर दिया जाता है तब बोतल के आकार का और जब कटोरे, लोटे, गिलास आदि में रहता है तब उन उन पात्रों के आकार का हो जाता है । द्रवत्व और विभुत्व में भेद केवल इतना ही है कि द्रव पदार्थ परिमित अवकाश को घेरता है और विभु पदार्थ पूरे अवकाश में व्याप्त रहता है ।
