The mule is a domestic equine hybrid between a donkey and a horse. It is the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse. The horse and the donkey are different species, with different numbers of chromosomes; of the two possible first-generation hybrids between them, the mule is easier to obtain and more common than the hinny, which is the offspring of a male horse and a female donkey.

खच्चर, यह बेसर के समान है जिसका जन्म एक घोड़ी और गधे के मिलन के परिणामस्वरूप होता है। घोड़ा और गधा विभिन्न प्रजाति हैं और इनमें गुणसूत्रों की संख्या भी भिन्न होती है। जहाँ गधे में ६२ गुणसूत्र होते हैं वहीं घोड़ों में इनकी संख्या ६४ होती है। खच्चर को आमतौर पर बोझा ढोने के काम में लाया जाता है। औद्योगीकरण से पहले खच्चर सामान को लाने ले जाने में एक महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाया करते थे। सभी नर खच्चर बंध्य होते हैं, जबकि मादा खच्चर कुछ दुर्लभ मौकों पर गर्भधारण कर सकती हैं। खच्चर का आकार इसको जन्म देने वाली घोड़ी के आकार पर निर्भर करता है। जो सामान्यतः आम घोड़े के आकार का होता है।
