An ethnicity or ethnic group is a group of people who identify with each other on the basis of perceived shared attributes that distinguish them from other groups. Those attributes can include a common nation of origin, or common sets of ancestry, traditions, language, history, society, religion, or social treatment. The term ethnicity is often used interchangeably with the term nation, particularly in cases of ethnic nationalism.

जातीय समूह मनुष्यों का एक ऐसा समूह होता है जिसके सदस्य किसी वास्तविक या काल्पनिक सांझी वंश-परंपरा के माध्यम से अपने आप को एक नस्ल के वंशज मानते हैं। यह सांझी विरासत वंशक्रम, इतिहास, रक्त-संबंध, धर्म, भाषा, सांझे क्षेत्र, राष्ट्रीयता या भौतिक रूप-रंग पर आधारित हो सकती है। एक जातीय समूह के सदस्य अपने एक जातीय समूह से संबंधित होने से अवगत होते हैं; इसके अलावा जातीय पहचान दूसरों द्वारा उस समूह की विशिष्टता के रूप में पहचाने जाने से भी चिह्नित होती है।
