Adansonia is a genus made up of eight species of medium-to-large deciduous trees known as baobabs or adansonias. They are placed in the Malvaceae family, subfamily Bombacoideae. They are native to Madagascar, mainland Africa, and Australia. The trees have also been introduced to other regions such as Asia. A genomic and ecological analysis has suggested that the genus is Madagascan in origin.

ऐडनसोनिया (Adansonia), जो साधारण रूप से बाओबाब (Baobab) के नाम से जाने जाते हैं, पतझड़ी वृक्षों एक जीववैज्ञानिक वंश है जिसमें आठ जातियाँ सम्मिलित हैं। भारत में इन्हें गोरक्षी और गोरख इमली के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। मूल रूप से बाओबाब माडागास्कर, अफ्रीका की मुख्यभूमि और ऑस्ट्रेलिया में पाए जाते थे, लेकिन इन्हें मानवों द्वारा एशिया और विश्व के अन्य क्षेत्रों में भी फैलाया गया है। यह एक लम्बी आयु वाला वृक्ष है और ज़िम्बाबवे का एक बाओबाब सन् 2011 में अपनी मृत्यु से पहले 2,450 वर्ष की आयु प्राप्त कर के विश्व का सबसे दीर्घजीवी ज्ञात सपुष्पक वनस्पति हो चुका था।
