He was supposed to give us instead we gave him.

Word to word meaning: Use hame dena tha par badale me hamane use de diya.

And please explain why not #3 is correct as you didn’t mention.

bajai is k wo hamay dayta hum nay usko day deya

Other translations are not wrong.
My preference is: Instead of he giving us, we gave him.

I think GV Sir wanted to write,
“Instead of giving us, we gave him”.

No, Sakshi. I wanted to write and also actually wrote:
Instead of he, giving us, we gave him

I feel there is no mistake in this sentence

May be if I emphasize “he” it will make it clearer.

Instead of he giving us, we gave him
It is similar to the sentence “Instead of John giving us, we gave John”

I stand by what I have written.
If anyone does not agree, it’s okay
Regards
GV

Dear friends! I was using this site since long time but just two or three days ago I came to know about these pages, where you people helping, actually any one helping to whom they need. Well it’s very good but sory to say that I got disappointed to see that there is no way to assure who is correct, moreover, the cons will go to them who need an answer as they must take the answer with member having tags like senior, star, or guru member and that tag just comes with posting more and more, not a big deal. Sorry and don’t mind please…. But don’t make it a cricket match where only a few teams’ country decides the fate of match. All the best to everyone, members, moderators and actually to those who are here to learn.

Dear Atul Sharma,

I am sad that you are disappointed.
If you think I am wrong, it’s okay. That is your privilege.

You can get it checked at other forums or ask people in whom you have faith.
But your later comments on the status of members are unfortunate and were not necessary.

No one is claiming that the more the posts, the more correct the answer.
Many times, I have made mistakes and others have pointed it out.
If they convince me that I was wrong I have always accepted their correction.
But in this case, I feel I am right and I am saying so.

Just as you are free to believe that I am wrong, please give me the freedom to believe that I am right.
I will change my opinion only if a person in whom I have full faith tells me that my answer is wrong and convinces me by quoting proper rules of grammar and trusted sources.
I will not change my belief simply because you believe that I am wrong.

For this sentence,
bajai is k wo hamay dayta hum nay usko day deya
बजाय इसके वह हमें देता, हमने उसको दे दिया

Your translation was : Rather he would give us, we gave him.
My translation is: Instead of he giving us, we gave him

You are free to accept or reject my translation.
I have not made any comment on your translation.
But you have called my translation wrong. I do not mind that. I will simply ignore your opinion.
I will leave it to individual members to take their own decision on who is right and who is wrong.

Hope you will forget this incident and continue with your queries.
We will do our best to answer them without giving you any guarantee about the correctness.
This is an open forum and no one is claiming that he is the final judge about correctness.
Whenever you believe that the answer is not right, please feel free to say so and reject the answer and try to get the correct answer from other sources.
But please don’t make adverse comments on the site’s policy of giving status to members.
That is a privilege of the owners and administrators.
You can discuss with them separately if needed about this policy and settle it.
You can post your suggestions in the Site Support Forum.
I am not part of the administration but just another member like you.
I have not appointed myself as “Guru”.

This forum is for helping one another and sharing knowledge
Let us keep it that way.
Regards and best wishes

@AtulSharma
Please don’t make comment on just a single post unless you read all the posts of GV Sir.
