बल्ब NOUN
- एक प्रकार की वनस्पति । गुट्ठी । विशेष—इसमें बहुत सी पत्तियों के योग से प्रायः कमल के आकार की बहुत बड़ी कली या गुट्ठी सी बन जाती है । इसके नीचे के भाग से जड़ें निकलती हैं जो जमीन के अंदर फैलती हैं और ऊपरी मध्य भाग में से पतला तना निकल कर ऊपर की ओर बढ़ता है जिसमें सुगंधित फूल लगते हैं । इसके कई भेद होते हैं ।
- शीशे का वह खोखला लट्टू जो प्रायः कमल के आकार का होता है और जिसके अंदर बिजली की रोशनी के तार लगे रहते हैं ।
- शीशे की किसी नली का चौड़ा हिस्सा ।

Description
तापदीप्त लैम्प या इन्कैंडिसेंट लैम्प को बोलचाल में बल्ब या शीशबत्ती कहते हैं। यह तापदीप्ति के द्वारा प्रकाश उत्पन्न करता है। गरम होने के कारण प्रकाश का उत्सर्जन, तापदीप्ति (incandescence) कहलाता है। इसमें एक पतला फिलामेन्ट (तार) होता है जिससे होकर जब धारा बहती है तब यह गरम होकर प्रकाश देने लगता है। फिलामेन्ट को काँच के बल्ब के अन्दर इसलिये रखा जाता है ताकि अति तप्त फिलामेन्ट तक वायुमण्डलीय आक्सीजन न पहुँच पाये और इस तरह क्रिया करके फिलामेन्ट को कमजोर न कर सके।
