Khalsa refers to both a community that considers Sikhism as its faith, as well as a special group of initiated Sikhs. The Khalsa tradition was initiated in 1699 by the Tenth Guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh. Its formation was a key event in the history of Sikhism. The founding of Khalsa is celebrated by Sikhs during the festival of Vaisakhi.

खालसा सिख धर्म के विधिवत् दीक्षाप्राप्त अनुयायियों सामूहिक रूप है। खालसा पंथ की स्थापना गुरु गोबिन्द सिंह जी ने ०९ अप्रैल सन १६९९, तिथि अनुसार २५ चैत्र शुक्ल पक्ष दशमी विरोधी, विक्रम सम्वत १७५६ बृहस्पतिवार को बैसाखी वाले दिन आनंदपुर साहिब में की। इस दिन उन्होंने सर्वप्रथम पाँच प्यारों को अमृतपान करवा कर खालसा बनाया तथा तत्पश्चात् उन पाँच प्यारों के हाथों से स्वयं भी अमृतपान किया।
