The first translation you have done is correct however its literal meaning would be “tum sach ko kyun nakaar rahe ho?”
So the second translation with a minor alteration would be better : “Why are you turning your back on the truth?”
Since “turning your back on something” is an established phrase in English while “turning your face from” is not.

The veiled suggestion in the Hindi original is that the fever was no reason to stop going to school altogether and is simply being used as a pretext. This meaning must somehow be brought out in the translation.

So what can possibly happen if he stayed back here?
Do collect sentences like these. I am tired of the standard, routine sentences.
Let’s have some difficult ones like these where the nuances of the language must be brought out by the translator.

About the sentences in question, I agree with the translations given by you however in the first sentence there’s nothing about light or high fever:
Tumhe bukhaar kya hua tumne to school hi jana band kar diya.
So the translation should be ;
Just because you got a fever, you totally stopped coming to school.
However there is one more point to consider: In these kinds of sentences “kya” is not a content word rather its a particle which doesn’t carry any particular meaning, they just add to the meaning of other content words so if I translate the sentence as:
You got a fever and you totally stopped coming to school?
This would not be wrong but the point to be taken care of is that don’t forget the “?” since this is the one that is covering the meaning of the question particle “kya”.
Hence translations for the other sentences can be:
3.Mai so kya gayi aur tumne mujhe jagaya bhi nahi.
I slept and you didn’t even wake me up?
This next one is a different case as here kya is a question word and not a particle.
4. Kya ho jata, Agar wo yaha ruk jata to.
What could possibly have happened if he had stayed back here?

You are right I am new to these Shabdkosh forums but I am a computational Linguist working on the area of Machine Translation which is not exactly translation but it needs a lot of translation work. However I am only experienced in English to Hindi Translations. This is my first time the other way round. So now u know.
