पुस्तकालय (pustakalaya) - Meaning in English

पुस्तकालय वह स्थान है जहाँ विविध प्रकार के ज्ञान, सूचनाओं, स्रोतों, सेवाओं आदि का संग्रह रहता है। पुस्तकालय शब्द अंग्रेजी के लाइब्रेरी शब्द का हिंदी रूपांतर है। लाइब्रेरी शब्द की उत्पत्ति लेेटिन शब्द लाइवर से हुई है, जिसका अर्थ है पुस्तक। पुस्तकालय का इतिहास लेखन प्रणाली पुस्तकों और दस्तावेज के स्वरूप को संरक्षित रखने की पद्धतियों और प्रणालियों से जुड़ा है।

A library is a collection of books, and possibly other materials and media, that is accessible for use by its members and members of allied institutions.
