- मझोले डोल डौल का एक पेड़ जिसके फल मेवों में गिने जाते हैं । विशेष—इसकी पत्तियाँ अमरूत की पत्तियों के इतनी वड़ी पर चिकनी और चमकीली होती हैं । फूल सफेद होते है पर फूलों के केसर हलके बैगनी होते हैं । फल गोल और उनके् गूदे की बनावट कुछ दानेदार होती हैं । बीज गूदे के भीतर बीचों बीच चार छोटे कोशों में रहते हैं । फल का विशेष अंश सफेद कड़ा गूदा ही होता है इससे इसके टुकड़े कटे हुए कड़े मिस्त्री के टुकड़ों के समान जान पड़ते हैं । काश्मीर में नाशपाती के पेड़ जंगली मिलते हैं । काश्मीर के अतिरिक्त हिमालय के किनारे सर्वत्र, दक्षिण में नीलागिरि, बंगलौर आदि में तथा भारतवर्ष मे थोड़े बहुत सब स्थानों में इसके पेड़ लगाए जाते हैं । कलम और पैबंद से भी इसके पेड़ लगते हैं जो डील डौल में छोटे होते हैं । काश्मीर की नाशपाती अच्छी होती है और नाख या नाक के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है । नाशपाती युरोप और अमेरिका के प्रायः उन सब स्थानों में होती है जहाँ सरदी अधिक नहीं पड़ती । युरोप में नाशपाती की लकड़ी पर नक्काशी होती है और उसके हलके सामान बनते हैं । आयुर्वेद में नाशपाती का नाम अमृतफल (इससे इसे कहीं कहीं अमरूद भी कहते हैं) भी है जो धातुवर्धक, मधुर भारी, रेचक तथा अमल-वात-नाशक माना गया है । सेब और नाशपाती एक ही जाति के पेड़ हैं ।

नाशपाती एक फल है। नाशपाती भी सेब से जुड़ा एक उप-अम्लीय फल है, लेकिन इसमें शर्करा अधिक तथा अम्ल कम पाया जाता है। यह मूल रूप से उत्तरी अफ्रीका, पश्चिमी यूरोप का निवासी था और पूर्वी जंबुद्वीप तक इसका विस्तार हुआ करता था। यह एक मध्यम ऊंचाई का पेड़ होता है जो 10–17 मीटर (33–56 फीट) तक पहुंचता है, प्रायः ऊपर ऊंचा, संकरा किरीट आकार होता है। इसकी कुछ प्रजातियां झाड़ रूपी भी होती हैं, जिनकी ऊंचाई अधिक नहीं होती।
Pyrus pyrifolia is a species of pear tree native to southern China and northern Indochina that has been introduced to Korea, Japan and other parts of the world. The tree's edible fruit is known by many names, including Asian pear, Persian pear, Japanese pear, Chinese pear, Korean pear, Taiwanese pear, apple pear, zodiac pear, three-halves pear, papple, naspati and sand pear. Along with cultivars of P. × bretschneideri and P. ussuriensis, the fruit is also called the nashi pear. Cultivars derived from Pyrus pyrifolia are grown throughout East Asia, and in other countries such as India, Pakistan, Nepal, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. Traditionally in East Asia the tree's flowers are a popular symbol of early spring, and it is a common sight in gardens and the countryside.
