विवरण

Analysis is the process of breaking a complex topic or substance into smaller parts in order to gain a better understanding of it. The technique has been applied in the study of mathematics and logic since before Aristotle, though analysis as a formal concept is a relatively recent development.

यद्यपि मूलतः गणित के क्षेत्र में ग्रीक गणितज्ञों ने प्रमेय को पहले ही सिद्ध किए गए कथनों या प्रमेयों में, अथवा स्वीकृत स्वसिद्ध तथ्यों में, रूपांतरित करके सिद्ध करने की पद्धति को 'विश्लेषण' (analysis) नाम दिया था। किन्तु वर्तमान समय में, संश्लेषण के विपरीत अर्थ में विश्लेषण (analysis) का प्रयोग किया जाता है। किसी विधान या व्यवस्थाक्रम की सूक्ष्मता से परीक्षण करने की तथा उसके मूल तत्वों को खोजने की क्रिया को 'विश्लेषण' नाम दिया जाता है।
