2. बड़ा । (देश और काल दोनों के लिये, जैसे, दीर्घक्षेत्र, दीर्घवस्त्र, दीर्घकाल) । विशेष— कणाद में दीर्घत्व को परिमाणभेद कहा है । सांख्य के मत से दीर्घत्व महत्व का अवस्थांतर है ।
3. विस्तृत । फैला हुआ ।
4. ऊँचा ।
5. गहरा । गंभीर । जैसे, दीर्घ श्वास ।

1. लता शालवृक्ष ।
2. माड वृक्ष ।
3. रामशर । नर- कट ।
4. ऊँट ।
5. ताड़ का पेड़ ।
6. गुरु या द्विमात्रिक वर्ण । वह वर्ण जिसका उच्चारण खींचकर हो । ह्रस्व का उलटा । विशेष— आ, ई, ऊ, ऋ, ए, ऐ, ओ, औ, ये दीर्घ स्वर कहलाते हैं । जिन व्यंजनों में ये लगते हैं वे भी दीर्घ कहलाते हैं, जैसे, का की कू इत्यादि । संगीत में भी दो मात्राओं का नाम दीर्घ है । अ— अ को एक साथ उच्चारण करने में जो काल लगता है वह दीर्घ काल कहलाता है ।
7. ज्योतिष में पाँचवी, छठी, सातवीं और आठवीं अर्थात् सिंह, कन्या, तुला और वृश्चिक राशि को दीर्घ राशि कहते हैं ।
