अवैध शिकार या Poaching उन जीवों के शिकार को कहते हैं जो क़ानून द्वारा संरक्षित हैं और जिनके शिकार पर या तो राष्ट्रीय या अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर पाबन्दी लगाई गई हो। इसमें जंगली पौधों या जानवरों को शिकार, कटाई, मछली पकड़ने, या फँसाने के माध्यम से अवैध या गैरकानूनी रूप से ले जाना शामिल है। यह शब्द केवल जंगली पौधों और जानवरों के लिए लागू होता है और यह अगर पालतू जानवर या खेती के साथ किया जाए तो इसे चोरी का दर्जा दिया जाता है न कि अवैध शिकार का।
Poaching is the illegal hunting or capturing of wild animals, usually associated with land use rights. Poaching was once performed by impoverished peasants for subsistence purposes and to supplement meager diets. It was set against the hunting privileges of nobility and territorial rulers.
