Word Difficulty and Popularity Scores
SHABDKOSH team has pioneered many new features in any dictionary site in the world. Today, we introduce yet another new feature - word popularity and word difficulty score. And we are pleased to tell you that it is available not only for English, but for ten Indian languages as well. Please do take note of it and let us know if you have any feedback.
Among English dictionaries, the word “frequency” score is available in Collins Dictionary, for example, see the definition of the word “power”. However, none of the dictionaries that support Indian languages have any such feature whereby a user can know the popularity (how much it is seen in common usage) and the difficulty of a word.
SHABDKOSH team does large scale text processing for linguistic analysis and this feature is a result of our research into the word usage and occurrence patterns in large scale Indian language corpora. By knowing the word score, we can easily judge whether we must learn a word, or we could focus first on easier words.
