Using Transliteration to type Hindi

You can use the transliteration facility to type in Hindi. When you open the site, you will be able to type English. The search box looks like in the picture below:

There are three ways to enter Hindi text. Each of the three ways is described in the following sections.

1. Click on “INSCRIPT” button below the search box

When INSCRIPT is clicked, the button becomes green.

You can also see the keyboard if necessary.

By pressing Shift key on the keyboard or clicking Shift button on the screen, the layout can be modified.

2. Click on “ROMANIZED” button below the search box

When “Romanized” is clicked, the Romanized keyboard is shown. You can either click on on-screen keyboard or just press the appropriate keys on the computer’s keyboard. Here also, the shift button changes the layout.

3. Press Control-G on your keyboard while the cursor is in the search box

When Control-G is pressed, then the search box becomes blue in color. To type in Hindi, type the word phonetically in English and press space bar. It will convert to Hindi word. In the picture below, you can see how “bhaarat” becomes “भारत”.

Sometimes, there will be more than one possible Hindi word. The most common word will be visible but by pressing the “Backspace” button, you can see more options that you can select from.
