Both are correct. It depends on the context.
Scenario One:
Suppose students of different batches are taking part in a competition.
The organiser asks each one to come forward and introduce himself / herself.
You can step forward and say : Hi, I am Ritu, I am the student of batch 2000-2002
Scenario two.
You go to the University office and ask the clerk for a duplicate certificate because you lost the original.
The clerk asks : Which year?
You answer: I was a student of the batch 2000-2002
