Sentence is not correct, it should be “School aaj band hai”.

School is closed today.

Kal School band tha.

School was closed yesterday.

Baat agar ek ghante pehle ki bhi ki jaye to hum ” tha ” use karte hai..
Sham k time sentence bole to—school aaj band tha.
School time par ( 7:00 to 01:30)  bole to—school aaj band hai

Problem ye hai ki do sentences ka translation same nikal raha hai..

1. आज स्कूल बंद कर दिया गया।
—The school was closed today.
School aaj band tha. ( in past moments )
—The school was closed today.

1. आज स्कूल बंद कर दिया गया hai.
—The school has been closed today.( passive of present prefect)
  [ ++ here closed is not an adjective, closed is a verb. ]

1. आज स्कूल बंद कर दिया गया।
—The school was closed today. (passive of past indefinite)
  [ ++ here closed is not an adjective, closed is a verb. ]

  —Is it right..?

Agree with mk

If you are speaking late in the evening of day then ” aaj school band tha”  is perfectly okay
mk’s translations in post #8 are also okay
