May be, I am sounding very silly to you .But this things confusing me.

Mujhe pata nahi tha.
I didn’t knew that or I didn’t know that.

Kya wo ghar par aayi thi aaj.
Did she come home today or not?
or
Did she came home today or not?

Mene jo bhi kaam kiya,wo mene jaan buj ke nahi kiya.
Whatever work I did,I didn’t do it Intentionally.( why not ‘done”,kyuki kaam to mene already kar diya,to wo to past tense ho gaya na.)

all the above sentences are in past tense like (the/thi/tha ) in hindi
but the verb form we are using is present like (come, know,do) why?

Plz make me clear.

Thank you so much shally232.

That’s exactly I wanted to know,I was missing this rule.

Did+base verb form

* A helpful way to remember this is that when there is an auxiliary verb, the main verb does not need to be marked for tense, because the tense is shown in the auxiliary. However, in a sentence about the past without an auxiliary verb, the main verb does need to be in the past tense form.

Mujhe pata nahi tha.
I didn’t know that.

Correct.
——————————

Kya wo ghar par aayi thi aaj.
Did she come home today or not?

Had she come home today ?  (because of the words aayee thee , we must say “Had she come”. If it had been kyaa vah ghar aayee?  then Did she come… is okay)
—————————-

Mene jo bhi kaam kiya,wo mene jaan buj ke nahi kiya.

Whatever work I did,I didn’t do it Intentionally

You can omit “it”. and perhaps you can also omit “work”
Whatever I did, was not intentional.
Or, Whatever I did, it was not deliberate.

GV

Kya wo ghar par aayi thi aaj.
Did she come home today?
I think there is no diffrence between aayi and aayi thi. Both have same translation.

Kya wo ghar par aayi thi aaj.
Did she come home today?
Kya wo ghar par aayi aaj.
Did she come home today?

Had is use for chuka thi or chuki thi.

Kya wo ghar par aa chuki thi aaj?
Had she come home today ?

@shally232

Can you please check the following ?

I came :  मैं आया

I had come : मैं आया था

I had already come : मैं आ चुका था

Did she come? क्या वह आई ?

Had she come : क्या वह आई थी ?

Had she already come? :  क्या वह आ चुकी थी?

@shally232
Past Indefinite is used—>
What happend in near past.
.
Example::
.
Ram Yahan Thodi Der Pahle Aaya Tha.
.
Ram came here a short while ago. [Correct]
.
Ram had come here a short while ago. [Incorrect]
.
Comment:: Aaya tha, Gaya tha, Liya tha, Diya tha… Ye sab dekhte hi Past Perfect ka sentence mat samjho. Pehle ye dekho kya ye near past me hua hai ya nahi.
Agar near past me hua hai to Past Indefinite se banao varna Past Perfect se.
.

Sakshi

Thanks Angel Sakshi, but what is the meaning of near past me hua. Plz explain me.

GV Sir hum galat bhi ho sakte hain, aap jitni English hume nahi aati. Haan jo grammer padhi hai usi ke base pe bolte hain. Sometime may be wrong translation by me if I forget. Isi liye hum chahte hain ki agar hum galat hain to aap log point out kareye.
