I had tried to look for the word in the Dictionary but did not find it.
That was because I looked for खदन, instead of खदान
I now found it.
Roman spelling in Hindi for खदान should have been khadaan instead of khadan.
Whenever I write Hindi in Roman lipi, I take care to make the “maatras” clear, particularly aa for आ की मात्रा
I always write raam for राम and never ram.
I use t for त, th for थ , T for ट , Th for ठ, D for ड, Dh forf ढ, d for द, dh for ध
डंडा, DanDaa, दंड, danD, धन्धा dhandhaa, धान्धलेबाजी dhaandhlebaajee, द्वंद dvand
Sometimes I wish that a standard system for writing Hindi in Roman lipi is formulated and accepted by all.
It could be an alternative to Devnaagari, in this computer age.

ModeratorYes Sir, I fully agree with you. One more letter ण has no exact match in English. Even town names get distorted. बाणगंगा is written as Banganga - There is a city ड़ँगरपुर in Rajasthan, we write it as Dungarpur in English and then translate as दुँगरपुर, similarly, there is a place - बाँसवाड़ा, we write it as Banswara, and when mechanically translated again, it becomes बंसवारा .
There is a place - साँझीछत just before Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu. We write it as Sanjhichat and it becomes संझीचाट when retranslated.
Let us see, what we can do.
