1922 के गया कांग्रेस मे हुए गतिरोध के बाद परिवर्तनवादियों ने स्वराज दल की स्थापना की।इसका पहला अधिवेशन इलाहाबाद में हुआ।इस दल ने 1923 के चुनाव में भाग लिया जिसमें इसे केंद्रीय और प्रांतीय विधायिकाओं मे अच्छा स्थान मिला।स्वराजियों ने अपनी ‘अडंगा डालनेवाली नीति’ से कुछ समय तक सरकार का चलना कठिन बना दिया।

After the dead lock in the Congress in 1922, the radicals floated the Swaraj Party. It’s first session was held at Allahabad. This party contested the 1923 elections in which it bagged quite a few seats in the Central and State legislatures. The Swaraj Party members, by their obstructionist policies, made the functioning of the government difficult for some time.
