In addition to Mr. Mukund, I have to say that samaaj can be termed as community in English. It may be based on caste or profession - say Rajput samaaj, Jain Samaaj or Jaat Samaaj by caste and adhyapak samaaj, fishermen samaaj or vyaapari samaaj by profession.
Social Worker is called samaajik kaarykarta, Social Service is samaajik seva and Social Function is Samaajik Karykram in Hindi.
